Guest Reviews
We had a fantastic stay in College Valley. The bunkhouse was a warm and well-equipped space. Charlene communicated really well.
Amazing location, really unique. Properly quiet and wild! The accommodation is just as described and great for a group stay. Warm, clean and comfortable. Definitely a place I would try to stay again.
What a lovely, secluded space. We had a great time at the bunkhouse and are already talking about when we might go back for more adventures.
Booked the bunkbarn as a surprise for our 16 yr olds and mums! Before our arrival Charlene was really good with communication and we felt very informed before we got there. On arrival, the bunkhouse was open waiting for us and was immaculately clean (looked like it had just had a new floor and painted). Facilities were great, just what we needed. Kitchen was well equipped and had everything we required. We will definitely be back – it was great, thank-you.
A great bunkhouse that, with a large group, works really well. We used as a base point for the St Cuthbert’s way with 18 walkers. A beautiful location and a good quality bunkhouse.
Would recommend Mounthooly as a great bunkhouse accommodation.
A brilliant hostel in beautiful surroundings. Immaculately clean, warm and dry, and with a warm welcome on arrival.
Charlene was a fantastic host answering many questions very promptly. The venue and bunkhouse were perfect and very clean and tidy. everything was as described. Definitely coming again. Thank you.
The bunkhouse is in a beautiful location and is very well taken care of. It has all the facilities needed to accommodate a group of walkers, including showers, drying room and a kitchen with plenty of utensils. Bedding is supplied but bring your own towels. Highly recommended!
Amazed by how beautifully clean the bunkhouse was when we arrived- cleaner than many hotels! The wood stove was glorious in the wet and wind making this a cosy retreat in a fantastic remote corner of walking country. Thank you very much for a lovely stay!

Getting here
Traveling by Car:
From the South:
Leave the A1 for the A697 north of Morpeth, signed for Coldstream. Stay on the road until a couple of miles north of Wooler; at Akeld buildings there is a left turn signposted to Kirknewton and Yetholm. Turn left and follow the road for three miles. Go through Kirknewton and over the little bridge, just after the bridge there are some cottages on the left. At the end of the cottages turn left, signposted to Hethpool.
From the North:
Take the A697 south from the A68. Cross the bridge into England at Coldstream and through Cornhill and Crookham. South of Crookham take the second right – soon after the left to Ford Castle – Go past Flodden and over a cross roads, pass several buildings on your left and at the bottom of a hill where the road swings round to the right turn left, which is actually going straight on. Cross the river and when you come to a T-junction turn left. Follow the road past Kilham until you come to a row of cottages on the right, immediately before the cottages turn right signposted Hethpool.
By Rail:
The Valley is not easily accessed by public transport, however the East Coast mainline stations of Alnmouth and Berwick are within easy travelling distance. Regular bus services are available to Wooler from each station, and, if willing to continue, a bus can be caught to Kirknewton. From there you would have roughly an hours walk to the Valley.
